What does EMR vendor certification mean?

In June of 2005, an independent, private-sector organization, the Certification Commission for Health Information Technology (CCHIT), announced its first round of certified EMR products.  The CCHIT certification means the EMR product meets the basic requirements for functionality (ability to carry out specific tasks), interoperability (compatibility with other products) and security (ability to keep your patients' information safe).
